About Us: Who is El Dirigo?
El Dirigo is the result of a lifelong desire, oftentimes sidelined and shelved, to create and play music both for ourselves and others. The band became a reality when we started performing 8 years ago in both Maine and Central Pennsylvania. Maine has held a special place in the heart & mind of Don Schneider, our founding member and band vocalist. It was a no-brainer for him to name the band El Dirigo, deriving from Maine’s Latin motto which means “I direct” or “I lead,” in reference to the North Star, the mariner’s guide.
“Giving us direction over the pathless ocean to the desired haven…”
What can you expect to hear? What are our musical influences?
Why label and limit? We are very excited to channel life, experiences, and dreams into music! With this concept, we hope that our music is leading us forward to that desired “haven”…
It’s about taking us places – places in our hearts and in our dreams. Places past, places present. Places on our journey giving us an outlet and them a perspective. Music has always helped us through life, either as explanation or expression. Our hope is that you give our music a listen and possibly find some songs you enjoy; we are very grateful that you are joining us for the ride.
